All About Me
I am deeply passionate about counselling, a commitment shaped by my own lived experience of trauma and adaptation. Following a life-changing injury that resulted in long-term disabilities, I experienced a profound disruption to my identity and sense of self. This journey informs my practice and underpins my understanding of how trauma, loss, and marginalisation can impact an individual’s psychological wellbeing.
From a trauma-informed perspective, I recognise how experiences of exclusion, ableism, and societal barriers can contribute to chronic stress, reduced autonomy, and internalised oppression. I am particularly interested in narrowing the divide between disabled and non-disabled individuals, as these systemic dynamics can significantly affect a person’s emotional regulation, self-concept, and capacity for agency.
My work is grounded in a person-centred foundation, supported by integrative counselling approaches. This enables me to adapt therapeutic frameworks to the individual, recognising that each person’s experience of trauma and recovery is unique. I aim to offer a safe, anti-oppressive space that prioritises emotional safety, collaboration, and empowerment, where clients can explore their experiences at their own pace.
I understand, both personally and professionally, the impact of feeling excluded or unseen. Trauma can often manifest in ways that affect self-esteem, identity, and relational patterns. Through our work together, I aim to support the development of self-awareness, resilience, and a renewed sense of identity.
After completing my BA (Hons) in Counselling Studies at the University Centre Grimsby, I continued to expand my knowledge through independent research into equality, diversity, and anti-oppressive practice, in alignment with BACP ethical standards. This led to direct engagement with the BACP, contributing to the May 2023 edition of Therapy Today (“Access All Areas”), where my work was featured. I have also presented at a number of BACP conferences.
In addition, I deliver psychoeducational teaching within academic settings, presenting to counselling Master’s students at universities. My work focuses on trauma-informed practice, anti-oppressive frameworks, and the integration of lived experience into therapeutic work. I have also developed and facilitated a range of workshops across numerous topics, providing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for qualified counsellors. These workshops aim to deepen understanding of trauma, identity, and inclusive practice, supporting practitioners to work more ethically and effectively with diverse client groups.
My core values are congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathy. I prioritise transparency and authenticity within the therapeutic relationship, recognising that a strong, trusting alliance is central to healing and growth.
I am committed to promoting cultural awareness and challenging systemic inequality. My work actively addresses prejudice and discrimination, particularly in relation to the protected characteristics outlined in the Equality Act 2010. Through both therapeutic and educational work, I aim to foster greater understanding, reduce stigma, and support meaningful, lasting change.
